Poetry and the art of Cynthia Anne Brown.

April is almost here and ushers in along with it National Poetry Month. I cannot tell you how much I adore poetry and an entire month devoted to it!

I know that I can enjoy poetry any old time I want – and believe me, I do – but poetry is everywhere in April and I love that. Odd tidbits flying all over the internet, local get-togethers, and best of all…organized events to spur us on to be poets ourselves.

I’ve decided to participate in two of those organized events this year:

PoMoSco: Poetry Month Scouts is hosted by The Found Poetry Review and as such, focuses on prompts which use found material to create poetry. This one is a little intense and one earns a badge with each submission. It hasn’t quite started, but when it does, you’ll find the poems here.

NaPoWriMo:  A more laid-back approach. Just write a poem, any poem, each day in April. Post it or don’t, they don’t care.

These were both organized in the style of NaNoWri (National Novel Writing Month) which takes place in November and I expect my output will adhere to the same r principle – I hope it’s good. I’ll really try to make it good, but likely I’ll just be lucky to write poetry everyday and so I’ll take what I can get. Regardless of how “good” they are, the poems will be valid in their own right. They’ll be good practice for writing everyday, reflect small unadorned snippets of my creative life, and may contain small seeds for future works,  poetic and otherwise.

I’ll post the results on my website and likely other places throughout my platform if you care to keep up. And please consider joining me!

The lush, gorgeous artwork in this post was created by Cynthia Anne Brown. She is a new artist at Ink & Alchemy and I’d love for you to pay her a visit and give her a warm welcome. Her work just knocks my socks off!
